Defining the Millennials through sights + sounds

REFLECTIONS

SCRIPT

We seek connection.

A connection to something real… and true…. and authentic.

We long to be connected to someone, something, ourselves.  Anything real.

Our generation must work its way out of the unquenchable greed, both personal and corporate of the preceding generation.

Crisis on Wall Street

Financial Meltdown

Paper, Plastic, more is more…..

We must reconnect to the earth.  Save it, conserve, recycle.

We must reconnect with our food.  Organic. Local.  Free Range

We must reconnect with each other.  Digital, Virtual, Social

We must connect with ourselves.

This assignment allowed me to engage in one of my favorite activities.  Choosing the 'right' images to convey emotion, tell a story, match the feel and/or lyrics of a chosen audio track, is a skill that I enjoy strengthening.  Shooting and editing the photographs was also a lot of fun.  Staging and going out to shoot were both enjoyable tasks. Writing the script, recording and editing the audio, was very new to me.  After the initial discomfort of hearing my own voice (I was warned!!) over and over again, I found it quite easy to edit the voice track to match the timing of the movie, and acheive a comfortable listening pace.  Merging the audio and images took a little bit of time, maneuvering the clip length of each image, but overall, I am pleased with the final product and the emotion that I was trying to evoke.

REFLECTIONS

This was a fun assignement.  I always enjoy introducing architecture concepts and history to others, as it's not something that most people are familiar with.  It was really nice learning how to put a lesson together from presentation, to handout, to grading rubric.  I liked the interactive nature of the presentation, and I enjoyed learning tips and tools to keep students engaged.

Holy Rotoscoping!!  This was a very time consuming project!  That being said, though, I really enjoyed this project, and I was super excited to learn about making animations in Photoshop.  It is such a powerful program, and I am always happy to learn another tool.  I wish that I had had more time to go back and add color to the frames, and I had hoped to add music notes, a staff, or other fun elements to the animation, but it was all that I could do to finish on time.  I am pleased with the outcome....  I love the energetic sketchy movement of the final product.

REFLECTIONS

I really loved this project.  It was intimidating at first, but I love that I had the ability to edit out little blips in my 'performance' and speed up the overall process as to not completely bore the viewer.  I enjoyed being able to choose a soundtrack,, and also the flexibility to use text overlays instead of a voice over.  (That was a very useful thing to learn how to do, in iMovie as well.)  I can see this sort of video being extremely useful in an art class.  Not only could students view it (multiple times) in class, but it could also be provided on the course website for independent review (or absences).  It will definitely be something I use time and time again.

REFLECTIONS

This was a challenging assingment, as most group projects are, but particularly because we had so many great ideas!  It was fun to work on a 'unit' type project, then break down the individual lessons to cover smaller elements in the overall unit.  I enjoyed sharing the Sketchup prgram with my group, and loved exploring all of our unique ideas for the unit.  Collaborative teaching could be a lot of fun!
